Disclosure

This study was conducted by Spytec GPS, which is one of the providers analyzed.

To make the research reproducible, the study uses first-party public information, links to its primary sources, states its methodology in full, and does not use third-party pricing estimates.

The study does not rank providers or declare an overall winner.

Executive summary

Fleet GPS pricing is harder to compare than a simple list of monthly prices suggests.

Spytec reviewed current public U.S. pricing and product information from 12 GPS and fleet-management providers relevant to smaller commercial fleets.

Only five of the twelve providers had first-party pricing clear and internally consistent enough for us to calculate standard recurring subscription costs for fleets of 5, 10, 25 and 50 vehicles without contacting sales or choosing between conflicting public prices.

Those five providers were Spytec GPS, Quartix, Momentum IoT, Linxup and Azuga.

Among those publicly reproducible offerings, modeled recurring subscription costs for a 50-vehicle fleet ranged from $4,296 to $15,000 per year — a difference of roughly 3.5 times.

Pricing is only one part of the comparison. Providers also differ in hardware economics, commercial terms, location-reporting cadence, historical-data availability and the features included at the advertised price.

The research also found several cases where providers' own current public materials presented different pricing or commercial representations. Rather than select whichever figure produced the cleanest comparison, this study records those conflicts explicitly.

Key findings

  • 5 of 12 Providers had public pricing sufficiently clear and consistent to calculate recurring costs for 5, 10, 25 and 50 vehicles without contacting sales.
  • $4,296–$15,000 Modeled annual recurring subscription range for 50 vehicles among the five publicly reproducible offerings.
  • 3.5× Approximate spread between the lowest and highest modeled 50-vehicle recurring subscription cost.
  • 5% → 20% Spytec's published automatic fleet-size discount increases from 5% at five devices to 20% at 50 devices.

These findings concern publicly documented pricing mechanics. They are not an overall ranking of product value.

What Does GPS Tracking Cost for 5, 10, 25 and 50 Vehicles?

Among the five providers with publicly reproducible pricing, modeled annual recurring subscription costs run from $510.15 to $1,500.00 for five vehicles and from $4,296.00 to $15,000.00 for fifty vehicles.

We modeled only offerings whose public first-party pricing was sufficiently explicit to reproduce the subscription cost at all four fleet sizes. Automatic fleet discounts were included only when the provider publicly stated both the discount percentage and qualifying fleet size. Negotiated discounts, unpublished volume pricing, temporary promotions, introductory free periods, taxes and optional products were excluded.

Modeled annual recurring subscription cost, in U.S. dollars, by fleet size. Five of the twelve providers reviewed.

Important methodology note

These figures are modeled recurring subscription costs, not negotiated customer quotes.

Formula: standard monthly-equivalent subscription × 12 × vehicle count.

Only publicly documented automatic fleet-size discounts were applied. Mandatory one-time costs are discussed separately. The five modeled offerings are not necessarily feature-equivalent.

$0 $15,000

These are publicly reproducible standard recurring subscription costs, not negotiated quotes. Hardware, commercial terms and functionality differ between providers.

How GPS Tracking Costs Scale From 5 to 50 Vehicles

Most publicly priced providers in the modeled group advertise a flat per-vehicle rate, so the annual cost rises in a straight line with fleet size.

Spytec is different in one specific pricing respect: its public pricing publishes exact automatic fleet-size discounts and device thresholds. The effective per-vehicle rate below is the $8.95/device/month annual rate after the published automatic discount at each fleet size.

  • 5 vehicles $8.50 effective per vehicle/month 5% discount
  • 10 vehicles $8.06 effective per vehicle/month 10% discount
  • 25 vehicles $7.61 effective per vehicle/month 15% discount
  • 50 vehicles $7.16 effective per vehicle/month 20% discount

Other providers may offer negotiated or sales-assisted volume pricing. This study does not estimate unpublished discounts.

Why Only Five Providers Appear in the Price Comparison

The remaining seven providers were researched but excluded from the modeled cost chart because their public information did not meet the study's reproducibility standard.

Some require a sales or reseller process. Others currently publish multiple first-party pricing representations that cannot be confidently reconciled.

The seven providers reviewed but not assigned a modeled recurring cost.
Provider Finding Study treatment
ClearPathGPS Current pricing material describes per-vehicle pricing, no-long-term-contract positioning and qualifying plans with no upfront hardware cost. However, the previously observed $13.99 commercial vehicle price could not be independently verified as a current offering during the August 31 research audit. Current exact public dollar price not verified
RAM Tracking RAM's canonical U.S. pricing page lists Lite from $14.99/vehicle/month. A separate current RAM-owned U.S. page advertises service from $10.99/month. The public material does not clearly reconcile the two prices. Conflicting current first-party pricing
BrickHouse Security BrickHouse's current business pricing material lists Basic Fleet at $17.99/device/month billed annually. Separate current BrickHouse fleet material represents fleet service starting at $9.95/month. Conflicting current first-party pricing
Samsara Current public pricing and product flows do not expose a reproducible numerical per-vehicle rate suitable for this model before further pricing or sales interaction. Pricing/sales process required
Motive Motive publicly documents GPS fleet-tracking functionality, but the material reviewed did not provide a current Motive-specific numerical vehicle subscription rate suitable for this model. Sales/order-form pricing
Verizon Connect Current U.S. materials direct buyers through plans/pricing and quote pathways without exposing a reproducible standard per-vehicle numerical rate in the reviewed material. Quote required
Geotab Geotab directs buyers to authorized resellers for current pricing. Reseller pricing required

Scroll the table sideways to see the study treatment column.

Quote-based pricing does not mean expensive pricing. Pricing transparency and price level are separate questions.

Why a Single Published Price Is Not Always Enough

One notable finding from the study was that several providers currently publish first-party information that cannot be reduced to one unqualified commercial statement.

Instead of selecting one source and ignoring another, the study preserves the conflict.

RAM Tracking

$14.99/vehicle/month versus $10.99/month

Both were present in current RAM-owned U.S. materials during the research audit. The public materials reviewed did not clearly explain the eligibility difference.

BrickHouse Security

$17.99/device/month annually for Basic Fleet versus $9.95/month starting fleet representation

Two separate current BrickHouse first-party representations of where fleet pricing starts.

Geotab

Hardware included in the subscription versus Upfront device payment plus monthly service

One current Geotab software-packages page says GO Core and GO Plan include hardware in the subscription with no upfront device or installation fee. Geotab's live FAQ separately describes the GO device as involving an upfront device payment plus ongoing monthly service.

In each case, the research preserves the ambiguity instead of choosing whichever interpretation produces the cleanest comparison.

Subscription Price Isn't the Whole Cost

The same monthly subscription price can represent very different commercial arrangements. Hardware, annual prepayment, contract terms, installation and cancellation can materially affect the buying decision.

Annual billing and a fixed contractual term are different things, and the study keeps them separate below.

What Does "Real-Time" GPS Actually Mean?

"Real-time" does not mean one thing across providers. A GPS tracker can record a position at one interval, transmit data at another interval and refresh the user's map at another.

Providers do not always use the same definition. For that reason, this study does not reduce every service to one simplistic "updates every X seconds" ranking.

Publicly documented update behavior, and what it does and does not establish.
Provider / offering What the provider publicly documents Interpretation
Spytec — Pulse OBD Real-time updates as fast as 1 second. The public page does not separately define GPS sampling, cellular transmission and UI refresh.
Quartix — Info Point GPS positions generated every minute. The last two one-minute positions are transmitted every two minutes. One-minute GPS-position generation; two-minute transmission cadence.
Momentum — Eagle One Coordinates logged every 10 seconds. Six breadcrumbs transmitted over cellular every 60 seconds. 10-second location logging should not be described as a 10-second cloud or map refresh.
Linxup Real-time vehicle tracking. No fixed numerical cadence established No fixed numerical standard vehicle transmission cadence was established in the reviewed first-party evidence.
Azuga — BasicFleet Location every two minutes. BasicFleet's documented cadence is two minutes.

Scroll the table sideways to read the interpretation column.

Additional context

Other researched providers reinforce the terminology problem. Verizon Connect says vehicle locations can update in its fleet software as often as every 30 seconds. Geotab's Active Tracking behavior depends on plan and fleet state and should not be represented as one universal one-second rate.

These are technical context, not entry-plan performance figures comparable to the modeled price table.

How Much Location History Can You Access?

Publicly documented history availability ranges from 3 months to 3 years among the providers where a duration was established, and several providers did not publish a duration the study could establish at all.

Historical location data can matter for customer disputes, proof of service, route investigations and operational analysis.

Publicly documented historical location data availability.
Provider / offering Publicly documented history
Spytec 365 days of trip history
Quartix Info Point 3 years
RAM Lite 3 months
Linxup Location History searches within the previous 2 years
ClearPathGPS Trip and route history documented, but exact current retention duration was not established
Momentum IoT Exact duration not established in the final publication-grade research
Azuga BasicFleet Exact duration not established in the canonical pricing/product evidence
Reading this table

A search or export window inside a provider's software is not the same thing as a data retention period, and this study does not convert one into the other.

What Does the Published Offering Actually Include?

Subscription price alone does not determine value. Providers vary in which capabilities are bundled into the researched offering, reserved for another tier, or documented at platform level without clear evidence that they belong to the advertised plan.

Each cell below reports the evidence state for that capability at that specific researched plan — not a rating.

  • Included at researched plan
First-party evidence connects the capability to the researched plan.
  • Higher / different plan
The capability is documented, but at a different tier than the researched plan.
  • Capability documented — plan inclusion unclear
The platform documents the capability, but not its inclusion in the researched plan.
  • Not found in reviewed plan materials
The capability was not established from the reviewed first-party plan materials.

"Not found" means only that the capability was not established from the reviewed first-party plan materials. It does not mean the provider does not offer it.

This matrix deliberately uses a conservative evidence standard. General platform capability is not automatically treated as included in a specific publicly priced plan. The same standard is applied to Spytec as to every other provider.

How Much Can a Buyer Determine Before Talking to Sales?

Five of the twelve providers published an exact numerical vehicle price that a U.S. buyer could turn into a recurring cost at all four fleet sizes without submitting contact information, requesting a quote or resolving conflicting prices.

The table below records the raw result for each provider. The study does not convert these results into a transparency score.

What a U.S. buyer could determine from public first-party information.

Seven Questions a Small Fleet Should Ask Before Buying GPS Tracking

These questions follow directly from what the research found to be inconsistent or under-documented across providers.

  1. What will the service cost at my actual fleet size?

A per-vehicle headline price may change because of automatic discounts, negotiated pricing or commercial terms.

  2. Is hardware included?

Check hardware purchase, activation, shipping and installation independently from subscription cost.

  3. Is the annual price simply prepaid, or does it create a contractual commitment?

Annual billing and a fixed contractual term are different things.

  4. What does "real-time" mean?

Ask how frequently the tracker records a position, transmits data and refreshes the software.

  5. How much historical location data is retained?

This can matter for customer disputes, route investigations and proof of service.

  6. Which capabilities are included at the advertised price?

Check maintenance, geofences, driver behavior, reporting and customer location/ETA tools rather than assuming that every platform feature belongs to the lowest-priced plan.

  7. How does cancellation work?

Understand notice periods, early-termination fees, annual-prepayment treatment and any hardware-return requirements.

Methodology

The study models a provider's cost only when its own current public materials make the recurring price reproducible at all four fleet sizes. Everything else is reported as an evidence state rather than estimated.

Quote-based providers
No price was estimated.
Feature methodology
A capability was marked as included only when first-party evidence connected it to the researched offering. General platform capability does not automatically prove plan inclusion.
Absence
"Not found in reviewed plan materials" does not mean the provider does not offer the capability.
Update-frequency methodology
Sampling, logging, transmission and software/map refresh are treated as distinct concepts where provider documentation distinguishes them.
Disclosure
Spytec GPS conducted this research and is one of the providers included. The report does not declare an overall winner.

The modeled annual recurring range was approximately $2,282 to $7,500 for 25 vehicles.

How much does GPS tracking cost for a 50-vehicle fleet?

The modeled annual recurring range was approximately $4,296 to $15,000 for 50 vehicles — roughly a 3.5× spread.

Why are only five providers assigned modeled prices?

The study only models providers whose current first-party public pricing allowed the recurring cost at all four fleet sizes to be reproduced without contacting sales or resolving conflicting price claims.

Does the lowest published subscription price necessarily mean the best value?

No. Buyers should also compare hardware costs, commercial terms, reporting cadence, historical-data availability and the capabilities included at the advertised price.

Why doesn't the study use pricing estimates from review sites?

Third-party estimates may be outdated, negotiated or based on different product configurations. This study uses first-party public information so readers can independently examine the evidence.
