Six things every host wants the moment a renter pulls out of the driveway.
Why Turo Hosts Use Spytec
Geofence Alerts
Draw boundaries around states, the U.S. border, or any no-go zone. Get an instant alert the moment a renter crosses one — before the car ends up somewhere it shouldn't.
Speed & Hard-Braking Alerts
Get notified for speeding, hard braking, and rapid acceleration. Time-stamped evidence makes damage and excessive-wear claims easier to back up with Turo support.
Mileage Tracking
Every trip is logged automatically. If a renter goes over your daily limit, you have the exact mileage record — not a guess from the odometer photo.
Theft Recovery
If a car is stolen during a trip, share the live location directly with police. Recovery is usually a matter of hours, not days — and it's the difference between a stressful weekend and a totaled vehicle.
Trip History
Every route is recorded and replayable. When a renter disputes damage or denies going somewhere, you've got the timeline and the map.
Multi-Vehicle Dashboard
Power Hosts running several cars see every vehicle on one map. Switch between cars, set unique geofences per vehicle, share access with a co-host.
Choose Your Tracker
Spytec Swift Wired vs. Spytec OBD
Both trackers do the core job — real-time location, geofence and speed alerts, trip history, mileage — equally well. The choice comes down to install preference and whether you want OBD-II diagnostic data.

Spytec Swift Wired
Hardwired install. Hidden behind the dash. Best for hosts who want a tamper-resistant tracker the renter never sees.

Turo Host FAQ
Do I need to disclose the tracker to renters?
Yes. Turo requires hosts to disclose any GPS tracking device in the vehicle listing. Add a line in your listing description so renters know the car has a GPS tracker. Disclosure is a Turo policy requirement and is also the law in several U.S. states. Spytec doesn't change what Turo requires — but it makes the tracker itself dead simple.
Will the tracker drain my car's battery?
No. The OBD draws negligible power — less than a phone charger left plugged in. The Swift Wired connects to the car's electrical system with built-in voltage protection so it shuts down before it can drain the battery.
Is real-time tracking included or extra?
Included. Every Spytec plan includes real-time location, geofence alerts, speed alerts, trip history, and mileage logs. No feature gating, no add-ons.
Can I track multiple vehicles in one account?
Yes. Add as many cars as you have. Each shows up on the same map in the Spytec app, with its own geofences and alerts. There's no per-vehicle dashboard fee — just the per-tracker subscription.
What's the monthly subscription cost?
Plans start at $14.95/month per vehicle on monthly billing or $8.95/month per vehicle on annual billing. Hardware is free with every plan. No contracts, cancel anytime, 30-day money-back guarantee.
Does it work in Mexico and Canada?
Spytec trackers cover the U.S. and Canada on the included plan. Mexico coverage is limited, but you'll typically still get the geofence-crossing alert at the border — which for most Turo hosts is the alert that matters most. If a renter takes a car into Mexico, you'll know.
Can I share access with a co-host?
Yes. Invite a co-host to your Spytec account and they get the same live view, alerts, and trip history. Useful for hosts who manage cars with a partner or hand off coverage on weekends.
What if a renter finds and unplugs the OBD tracker?
You get an immediate power-loss alert with the car's last known location. If you're worried about renters going looking for it, the Swift Wired hides behind the dash and there's nothing visible to unplug. Both trackers are good options — it's a question of how concerned you are about a renter actively trying to defeat the tracking.
Is the Swift Wired hidden well enough?
Yes. A standard install tucks it behind the dash trim where there's nothing visible from the cabin. A renter would have to disassemble interior panels to find it — well outside what someone is going to do during a 3-day rental.
Can I get historical trip data for a damage dispute?
Yes. The Spytec app keeps a full trip log — every route, every stop, every speed event. You can pull a trip on a specific date, screenshot it, and submit it as evidence with your Turo claim. Hard data is what wins disputes.
