When it comes to GPS tracking, hardware matters –and you can add any of Spytec’s GPS hardware for just about any occasion. From tracking trucks to tracking moose, you can track anything you need with our product selection.

There are two different types of powered GPS tracking devices we offer at Spytec:

Battery-powered: Choose from various battery-powered devices that are built to fit any scenario. With enterprise-grade battery life on our battery-power, and a wide range of accessories to meet your specific needs, Spytec can be added to virtually every corner of your business. As a result, you can gain better flexibility and more control over your trackers –which includes using one tracker to cover multiple assets.

Non-battery-powered: When you need an always-on device that’s connected to your powered equipment, Spytec has hardwired devices to get the job done. If you’re looking for something more low maintenance and tracking vehicles or fleets, you can draw power continuously, right from your vehicle’s OBD port.

Using battery-powered devices

Battery-powered devices are common for companies with moving assets. However, it’s important to keep in mind that you need to consider recharging batteries as time goes on.

Here are a few examples of those who use battery-powered GPS tracking devices:

  • Retail companies to track clothes and shipments. Good for visibility & help recover any stolen items
  • Other companies use battery-powered tracking to track containers, dumpsters, trailers, equipment, etc.
  • Businesses or those with non-static or always moving assets often need to use battery-powered devices. One interesting example of this that we’ve seen is someone tracking moose.

Using hardwired devices

Hardwired GPS tracking devices are common for companies tracking equipment or vehicles.

Here are a few examples of those who use hardwired GPS tracking devices:

Using OBD devices

OBD GPS tracking devices are common for companies tracking vehicles or fleets. They hook the device up to the vehicle’s OBD port.

Here are a few examples of those who use hardwired GPS tracking devices:

  • Rental companies who rent out a lot of vehicles will typically use OBD devices to track them.
  • Other companies like energy services will also use OBD devices to track their work vehicles.
